Plant growth regulartors are synthetic or natural compounds that affect developmental or metabolic processes in plant tissues cultured in vitro. Plant growth regulators are important compounds that impact aspects of plant growth such as root, shoot and embryo development.
· Plant growth regulartors reduce mowing frequency.
· Properly used PGRs also increase turf color and turf quality of a healthy, actively growing lawn.
· Using PGRs can also support reduced water use to maintain the quality of the turf, potentially providing an environmental benefit in arid climates, during droughts, and when water use is limited or restricted.
· When used on shrubs, landscape companies can enjoy fewer pruning cycles, less green waste, less fuel consumption, fewer dumping fees, less disruption to the property, less wear and tear on equipment, less wear and tear on laborers, improved safety for workers by reducing ladder usage.
· Plant growth regulartors can reduce time spent maintaining a property, thus saving labor money.
· Treated shrubs keep a manicured appearance. The shrubs will also look healthier due to physiological changes that occur as a result of growth inhibition. Growth-regulated shrubs often have darker green foliage, enhanced flower set, improved drought tolerance, and are less susceptible to foliar diseases.

Types of Plant Growth Regulartor
Plant Growth Regulator Seaweed
Plant growth regulator seaweed natural hormones such as auxins and cytokinins, which promote cell division, root growth, and overall plant development. It is rich in essential micronutrients such as zinc, iron, magnesium, and calcium, which are vital for plant health.
Gibberellins
Gibberellins (GAs) are a crucial class of plant hormones involved in various biological processes, such as plant growth and development. Gibberellins are named from GA1 to GA126, in the order of their discovery.
Auxin
Auxin is a class of endogenous hormones that contain an unsaturated aromatic ring and an acetic acid side chain. It is abbreviated as IAA in English, with its chemical essence being indoleacetic acid.
Cytokinin
Cytokinin (CTK) is a plant hormone isolated or synthesized from corn or other plants. It is generally produced in the roots of plants and is a class of substances that promote cytokinesis and stimulate the differentiation and growth of various tissues. It has a synergistic effect with auxin.
Abscisic Acid
Abscisic acid is an organic substance with the chemical formula C15H20O4. It is a growth-inhibiting plant hormone named for its ability to cause leaves to fall off, and may be widely distributed in higher plants.
Plant Growth Regulartor Use in Apples
Improving fruit shape
Plant growth regulartors are plant growth regulators used to improve the shape of apples through elongation and development of more prominent calyx lobes on apples that have a natural typiness.
Improving fruit size
Fruit size can be improved by thinning apples to a desirable crop load through chemical fruitlet thinning and/or hand thinning. The biggest factor for improving fruit size would be early thinning. There are also the following products that can be used additional to thinning fruit to improve fruit size
Reduce russeting in apples
Russeting can occur on susceptible varieties (Golden Delicious) during cool, wet or humid weather at bloom and early stages of fruit development. Plant growth regulartors can reduce russeting by increasing the epidermal cell density in the skin. Plant growth regulartors cannot reduce russeting caused by frost damage, disease, herbicide drift, or phytotoxicity.
Modifying tree growth
Feathered nursery trees are important for most high density apple planting systems. Nursery trees should ideally have 10 to 15 feathers per tree to allow for adequate production in the second and third years. Plant growth regulartors can be used to stimulate lateral bud break and additional branch growth on young trees, resulting in improved branch angles, and providing a better tree structure for early cropping.
Vegetative growth control in apples
Plant growth regulartors are a plant growth regulators that inhibits the synthesis of gibberellins. Trees treated with plant growth regulartors often have the same number of shoots as untreated trees, but shoots from treated trees are thicker or greater in diameter and are shorter from having compressed internodes. Plant growth regulartors do not reduce the number of leaves or fruit size.

As the plants require oxygen, water, sunlight, and nutrition to develop and grow, they do require certain chemical substances to manage their growth and development. These chemical substances are known as Plant Growth Regulators and are naturally produced by the plants itself.
These are simple organic molecules having several chemical compositions. They are also described as phytohormones, plant growth substances, or plant growth hormones.
They can accelerate as well as retard the rate of growth in plants.
Generally, there are five types of plant hormones. Plants growth hormones or plant growth regulators exhibit the following characteristics:
Differentiation and elongation of cells.
Formation of leaves, flowers, and stems.
Wilting of leaves.
Ripening of fruit.
Seed dormancy, etc.
Application Guidelines for Plant Growth Regulartors
Plants to be treated with PGRs should be healthy, turgid, and unstressed — never wilted. The label will identify the target tissue for that PGR. For example, daminozide is only effective as a foliar spray, whereas paclobutrazol and uniconazole sprays must reach the stems.
When making spray applications, look at the growth and development of the plant to see that there is sufficient development to make the treatment effective and accomplish your goal. Generally, there should be sufficient foliage or stems to absorb the PGR.
Uptake and effectiveness of a PGR also depend on selecting the application technique that will ensure proper coverage of the target tissue. Daminozide is not soil-active. Therefore, a foliar spray application, wetting most of the foliage, is necessary to provide a uniform reduction in growth.
Leaf surfaces should be dry for foliar applications, and the best uptake of PGRs from spray applications will occur under low-stress, low-drying conditions. This is more critical for daminozide and ethephon than for some of the newer chemistries, like the triazoles. Overhead irrigation after treatment with daminozide or ethephon should be delayed for 18 to 24 hours to avoid washing the material off of the leaves.
