Chemical fertilizers are the artificially manipulated substances containing known quantities of three macroelements, i.e., nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorous. Chemical fertilizers are cheaper than the organic fertilizers and also easy to use, but they affect microorganisms that are naturally present in soil and enhance the soil fertility. Practices in sustainable agriculture encompass not only the health status of soil particles but also the health of crop plants/beneficial microbes.
If chemical fertilizers are used, it is because of the multiple advantages obtained. These are:
Quick solution to problems: As they act in the short term, this type of fertilizers are very useful in critical situations, when plants do not seem to be developing properly or when there is a shortage of food due to crop erosion.
Soil adjustment: Whether the soil has a very high or low acidity level, it can be adjusted with chemicals to get the most out of it.
Increased productivity: The goal of using these chemicals is to get more, better and bigger food. With nitrogen or potassium, injected directly into the soil, you get the best vegetables.
Low costs: Compared to the other more natural options available, such as organic or bio fertilizers, chemical fertilizers have lower costs, but only when using those with only one main nutrient (compound fertilizers are more expensive).

Types of Chemical Fertilizer Raw Materials
DAP Diammonium Phosphate Granular
DAP fertilizer is highly soluble (588 g/L at 20°C) and thus dissolves quickly in soil to release plant-available phosphate and ammonium. A notable property of DAP is the alkaline pH (7.5–8) that develops around the dissolving granule.
MAP Mono Ammonium Phosphate
Monoammonium phosphate (MAP) is a widely used source of phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N). It's made of two constituents common in the fertilizer industry and contains the most phosphorus of any common solid fertilizer.
NPK 7-5-44 Water Soluble Fertilizer
NPK 7-5-44 water-soluble fertilizer is a high-concentration compound fertilizer designed to meet the nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium needs of crops at critical growth stages. It contains 7% nitrogen (N), 5% phosphorus (P2O5), and 44% potassium (K2O), with a total nutrient content of up to 56%.
NPK 12-43-12+TE Water Soluble Fertilizer
An NPK 12-43-12+TE Water Soluble Fertilizer is a fertilizer containing 12% Nitrogen (N), 43% Phosphorus (P), 12% Potassium (K), and additional "TE" (trace elements) that are completely soluble in water, meaning they can be easily mixed with water for foliar application or fertigation systems.

The basic steps for NPK manufacture are:
Reaction of liquid Ammonia and Phosphoric Acid to form slurry of mono and di ammonium phosphates in Pre-neutralizer.
Mixing of the slurry with other feed materials: Liquid Ammonia, Urea, Muriate of Potash, Filler and re cycled NPK granules. Solid raw materials are fed to the system through the modern J&N Weigh Feeders (with Programmable Logic Control device) which maintain accuracy according the set load. Mixing is done in the `Blunger units where the fertilizer granules are formed.
Drying of the granulated material in a rotary dryer.
Separation of granule produced by screening followed by cooling, coating & polishing of the granules and product bagging.
MFL produces grades of N P K fertilizers viz. 17 17 17, 19-19-19 and 20-20-0.
How to Choose the Right Chemical Fertilizer for Your Crop
Soil testing
Conducting soil tests is a foundational step in selecting the right chemical fertilizer. Soil analysis helps determine existing nutrient levels, guiding the choice of a fertilizer with the appropriate nutrient composition.
Crop type and growth stage
Consider the type of crop and its growth stage. Different crops have varying nutrient demands at different phases of growth. Choosing a fertilizer aligned with these requirements is essential for optimal results.
Nutrient ratios
Understanding the specific nutrient ratios needed for different crops is crucial. For example, leafy greens may require higher nitrogen levels, while fruiting plants benefit from increased phosphorus and potassium.
Environmental considerations
Take into account environmental factors such as climate, soil type, and water quality. These factors can influence nutrient availability and impact the effectiveness of the chosen chemical fertilizer.
Application methods
Consider the preferred application method. Whether through conventional broadcasting, precision fertigation, or foliar spraying, choosing a fertilizer compatible with the selected application method is important.
